Types of Medical Equipment
Medical equipment is instrumentation, which was designed with strict
standards set forth by the FDA for the diagnosis and treatment of
disease and medical problems.
Types of medical equipment:
Diagnostic equipment is scientific equipment used in the diagnosis of
disease and included such instruments as ultrasound machines, magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI), computer-assisted tomography (CAT-scans),
positron emission tomography (PET), and x-ray instrumentation.
Therapeutic equipment is instrumentation, which aids in healing, such as
infusion pumps, lasers, and LASIK surgical machines. Life support
equipment is instrumentation, which maintains bodily functions, when the
patients body can no longer perform these functions on its own. Such
life support instrumentation includes but is not limited to ventilators,
heart-lung machines, Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and
dialysis machines.
Medical monitors are instruments, which permits medical staff to
constantly monitor a patient's medical state. Such instruments include
the electrocardiogram (ECG)electroencephalogram (EEG), and blood
pressure.
Automated medical laboratory equipment is instrumentation, which analyze
blood, urine, and genes. Such instruments include: the Abbott CELL-DYN
Sapphire for use in hematology, ARCHITECT ci8200 Integrated System, is a
clinical chemistry instrument, and Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics VITROS®
350 Chemistry System, ID-Micro Typing System used in blood banking.
These are just a very few of the vast amount of instruments available to
hospitals, physicians offices, reference laboratories made available
through the research of diagnostic corporations.
