Origins of Medical Imaging

Prior to the invention of the x-ray machine, physician simply felt the area of the body in question to visualize the condition the internal organ. This technique is still used today in making initial assessments of potential problems for breast lumps, fractures, enlarged internal organs, and many other conditions. In 1895, X-rays were the new scientific wonder. On January 18, 1896, H.L. Smith displayed an X-ray machine, but X-rays were not first used in the diagnosis of disease, but as a way to sale shoes until they were banned in 1957.
