Life Support Equipment

Life support therapies employ the combination of a number of techniques such as feeding tubes, intravenous drips, respirators, heart/lung machines, defibrillation, and dialysis to name a few. Some techniques are used in intensive care or during
surgery, when the body cannot fully support itself.

Life support is considered by many to be unethical. The Roman Catholic Church teachings
suggest the employment of artificial means to maintain life is not necessary to fulfill the duty of life. However, to the parents of a premature infant, ventilators
maybe considered both ethical and vital.
